not really smoking

so after closing the books last month, I thought I would just post up some of our donations over the past half year. look, they aren’t very huge amounts (mainly because I don’t really earn a lot from you guys, despite what your own calculations may be) but i like to think that every bit helps.

i’m not really going to do this again (as in posting these receipts up) though, but i just want to remind you guys that when well… when i made that statement last year, i wasn’t really BS-ing.

Review: Medicom RAH Kamen Rider Kabuto

Kamen Rider Kabuto

It’s a little late to review this piece (considering it’s been out in… early 2007?) but heck, I like him. Making his debut in 2006’s Kamen Rider and also celebrating KR’s 40^th anniversary, Kamen Rider Kabuto sees a return to the bug and insect motif for all of its riders. In the center of attention is of course Kabuto, walking the path of heaven, always quoting grandma, easily defeating most Worms (and Riders) and having a supremely confident, cocky and often rude attitude, he can be hailed as one of the most overpowered Riders on KR’s history ever. Now thanks to the release of this piece, Medicom has me collecting other toys from their toy line. Dandy……

As a whole, this figure can be posed in this trademark poses rather easily, but when it comes to making this figure stand without the figure stand included…..well, not so easy. However, the detail that Medicom put into this toy’s head and especially his visor is truly impressive (can’t you guys tell by now I am a diehard Kabuto fan?) : )

Review: Medicom RAH Ultraman Ace

from now on, we’ll start posting up reviews of some toys we do have just to share with you guys. Think of it as either nicely informative (as in, a lot of picutres) or really just us showing off. These reviews are written by Kai, one of our largely ‘under the radar’ but utterly essential member of the exceed charge team.

Kai has been deeply involved in the toy market (at least where kamen rider and ultraman are concerned) and he has a solid writing skill to boot, so we’ll show you the still-sort-of-new medicom Ultraman Ace for now ^^

Joining us today is the 5^th Ultra Brother, and quite a violent one, Ultraman Ace. Having been delayed for 2 months did not make me a very happy person, but since it is released, I should just get on with my life. Medicom did a good job with Ace as a whole and I have generally no complaints except for 2…..

1) He does not seem to have a neck.

2) He can’t be posed properly his trademark Metallium Kousen(L style) pose.

So being a nice guy to try to avoid these bad points, we have some pics of Ace in some nice (or bad) poses and a very special cameo appearance by none other then…….. well read (or look) on for who it is…..

other features are generally quite good and detailed

overall good figure. we like

tonberry doesn't look too friendly in this shot. who'll win in a fight?

Well… things on YAJ seem pretty boring recently, which explains why there hasn’t been a newsletter out for quite some time. So let’s just run a search though YAJ and see what kind of interesting goodies are there… think of it as a way to beat the monday blues…

I like this bugger cos he really looks like some kind of wallet. You have be surprised by how popular this monster (”Kaiju”) is. Just early 2007, there’s is a case of a toy-buyer sending lawyer letters threatening to sue a seller because of a Kanegon toy… it was quite entertaining ^^lll

In both Ultraman (the original 1966 series) and in Ultraman:The Ultimate Hero (1993 Ultraman-remake by the US), Jamilar was potrayed as an astronaut who got turned into a monster due to an accident in space. However, (s)he is being rejected by his/her fellow humans upon returning to earth, suffering and being attacked by those (s)he supposedly loved most. This is an interesting monster as it’s a rare episode when you actually hope the monster Ultraman is fighting WON’T die.

The 1966 version showed Jamilar struggling on the ground, in great torment, before dying. The 1993 series showed Jamilar begging Ultraman to kill him to end his suffering. Even by today’s standards, these episodes can be quite emotional and thought-provoking.

In the same way the SHOCKER RIDERs are very tough customers of the Kamen Riders, these fake Ultramans are also well remembered for their ability to make the Ultraman(s) cry. After all, these fake buggers have all  of Ultraman’s powers and can at least kick-ass as well as Ultraman do! and they don’t have to worrying about protecting buildings!
